Rushmore Avenue School social worker Mr. Nick Michael, LCSW, addressed the health issue of youth vaping and invited experts in the field from NYU Winthrop Hospital to speak to students earlier this month.

Presenters included Donna Dolan, who is a licensed clinical social worker for NYU Winthrop Hospital, and Robin Gibson-Simms, who is a registered nurse who works within the Community Education and Outreach department for NYU Winthrop Hospital.

Sixth graders took part in a workshop, “The Great Vape Debate,” that provided an opportunity for students to gain valuable knowledge on what vaping is and the negative effects of vaping. They were also given insight as to the “why” behind addiction, risks and how vaping can cause harm and can lead to other addictions.
