Carle Place Students Recognized at Board Meeting

On Dec. 12, the Carle Place School District Board of Education held a community meeting where students throughout the district were recognized for their outstanding academic and community efforts.

Carle Place Middle/High School Principal Thomas DePaola began the evening by presenting certificates of achievement to seven high school seniors who received the Prudential Spirit of Community Award, which is the United States’ largest youth recognition program based solely on volunteer community service.

“We are here tonight to applaud these young people who have made a positive difference in our community and school,” said DePaola. “It is hoped by their actions that they will inspire others.”

Joseph Malizia, Carle Place’s director of science, technology, engineering, mathematics and business, then introduced the first-, second- and third-place winners in grades 6-8 of the 18th Annual Rushmore Avenue/Carle Place Middle School Science Expo. Students were encouraged to conduct investigations on topics including aviation, nutrition, biology, earth science, chemistry, social sciences, physics and environmental sciences.
