High School senior class officers recently decided to pay it forward to their teachers and younger peers by hosting a “cocoa and cram” study session. On Jan. 23, the student-leaders tutored more than 100 seventh- and eighth-grade students utilizing teacher-provided materials. Hot cocoa was served and enjoyed as students prepared for their midterm examinations. A game of “Jeopardy!,” which was led and created by senior class president Rachael Martines, made for a unique, interactive learning experience.

“It was important to me to participate in cocoa and cram because it was something the seniors did for me when I was in seventh grade,” said Martines. “As the role models of the school, it was our turn to give back and return the favor.”

The session provided a comfortable and inviting forum where students could not only study together, but also learn about building a spirit of community. “It was amazing to see everyone come together,” said Martines. “Everyone truly exemplified compassion and passion and I am thankful for this experience.”
