Seventeen-year-old Sabrina Mastrangelo, a relative of Rushmore Avenue student Alexa Mastrangelo, visited the school to speak to students about cyberbullying and the importance of online safety. Sabrina, who holds the titles of Miss Long Island Teen 2012 and Miss New York Teen USA 2012, was welcomed back to Rushmore Avenue to continue on her mission of raising awareness and sharing her belief that it is never too early to start making a difference.

“Sabrina visited my class two years ago to speak about bullying,” said Alexa. “Her message was so great that I felt we should have her back again so more kids could hear it.”

To begin her presentation, Sabrina defined cyberbullying and what it means to be a bully. She also provided facts and statistics, stating that 43 percent of children have been bullied online and that cellphones are the most common medium for cyberbullying. Sabrina also offered advice on how to prevent cyberbullying and encouraged students to seek guidance in a trusted adult in every situation.
