High school senior Patricia Acipreste has won the Joseph Adams Scholarship from the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. This award is given to a member of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica in good standing who will be continuing his or her Spanish studies at the post-secondary level.

“As her teacher, I know Patricia leaves no stone unturned when taking on a course of study,” said high school language teacher Rosa Perifimos. “Her desire, diligence and willingness to take on a difficult task with a positive attitude will, no doubt, bring her much success. I’m very proud of Patricia and I wish the best for her.”

As part of the application process, Patricia had to demonstrate both her oral and written abilities in Spanish. The application also included her transcript, a description of her contributions to and for Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica and the greater community, and letters of recommendation.

Presently, Patricia is the vice president of the Spanish Honor Society chapter Cristóbal Colón of Carle Place High School. She speaks four languages and expects to major in the field of international business in college.
