In honor of Memorial Day, students in the high school’s Global Foods classes made patriotic-themed cookies for U.S. military personnel serving in the Middle East, including Carle Place alumni Andrew Cunha (Class of 2009) and John Medina (Class of 2012).

According to teacher Erika Falik, the project was designed to enhance student citizenship by developing a sense of civic responsibility, as well as to help students recognize and appreciate the great service that U.S. servicemen and servicewomen provide to our country.

“It’s great to see my own classmates involved in something that benefits my own brother, who is serving,” said junior Nicole Cunha.

Fellow junior Melissa Choi added, “I’m glad I could take my culinary passions and transform them into bites of compassion, like a true Carle Place frog.”
