Rushmore Elementary School students strapped on their walking shoes on June 2 to participate in the Rushmore Walk to School Day event.

According to Rushmore Principal Susan Folkson, the event was coordinated to teach students about the benefits of walking to school.

“Not only is walking to school healthy for students, but it also benefits the environment by reducing air-polluting emissions from cars,” said Folkson. “Walking hand-in-hand to school is also a great time for parents and children to interact with each other, and it boosts a sense of community.” She also pointed out, “The weather was perfect and the turnout was excellent.”
