As part of their summer reading assignment, ninth-grade students in the English Honors classes at Carle Place High School were asked to read Maddy Lederman’s Edna in the Desert and complete an assignment. The book is about a trouble-making teen whose parents decide the best cure is for the teen to live in the desert with the grandparents. To bring the project full circle the author visited with students at CPHS, conducting a workshop on the process of writing a book, as well as discussing her inspiration for its theme. Pictured, freshman Ariana Davila gets her book autographed by Lederman. “I love to read,” Ariana said. “This has become one of my favorite books.”
