Students at Cherry Lane dressed in red, black and white and participated in a festive variety of reading-related activities as part of their celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, also known as Read Across America Day.

Following a march around the school during which they proudly held books, students took a reading pledge and joined faculty members for silent reading. Aligned with one of its English language arts goals to increase reading stamina among students, kindergartners, first-graders and second-graders read for 12, 16 and 22 minutes this year, respectively, compared to six, 10 and 16 minutes last year, respectively. The day was designed to continue reinforcing the importance of reading to students.
