On Oct. 4, the English as a New Language Department held an ENL Parent Orientation for the families of English language learners at Carle Place MS/HS. This meeting allowed the families of ELLs to not only learn important information about the ENL program at Carle Place, but to gather in a spirit of support and camaraderie. The evening included welcome remarks from Chairperson of English (7-12) and ESL (K-12) James Fisher, as well as presentations by ENL teachers Rebecca Chiarelli-Shay, Michelle Rusinyak and Daryl Valdivia. Helpful material was provided and discussed with the families, including information about ENL entrance and placement exams, student support services, strategies for promoting language literacy, state exam criteria, high school graduation requirements and ENL exit standards. There was also time at the end of the night to answer questions and engage in one-on-one discussions with the parents and families. It was a wonderful evening. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped to make it a success!
