Six juniors from Carle Place Middle/High School attended the 16th annual Student-Athletes as School Leaders Conference at Hofstra University on Jan. 31.

Student-athletes Lauren Basso, Emma Beattie, Emiline Biggin, Chris Deveau, Chris Froehlich and Samantha Wagner were joined by Director of Athletics, Physical Education, Health, Family and Consumer Sciences Christine Ceruti and teacher and varsity girls bowling coach Brian Krummenacker (pictured). The conference theme was “Leading Through Actions” and it served as an opportunity to encourage student-athletes from throughout Nassau County to embrace leadership roles and share ideas and examples with their peers on how to be good leaders on and off the field.
Former New York Liberty WNBA player Kym Hampton served as the keynote. Hampton, who played in the inaugural WNBA game, spoke of the effect athletics had on her life and how being a part of a team is so much more than just playing a game.
