Student members of the Carle Place Middle-High School jazz bands received an exciting visit from internationally renowned jazz educator Justin DiCioccio. Mr. DiCioccio has been named “the musician’s teacher” for his keen insight into teaching and his inventive approach. He was also inducted into the Jazz Education Hall of Fame.

During his visit to Carle Place, he conducted a jazz clinic with Middle-High School Band Director Mr. Kevin Kavanagh. Mr. DiCioccio used his musicianship and enthusiasm to teach the students about why they play musical instruments and how to improvise on the 12-bar blues. All students who attended were inspired to continue honing their skills on their instrument.

Mr. DiCioccio’s performing and conducting credentials include concerts, commercials, Broadway shows, and recordings with jazz, orchestra, pop and new music groups. In addition, he is a former member of the Rochester Philharmonic and for five years was a member of the Marine Band, “The President’s Own,” in which he served as the official White House Drummer.
