Ten Middle-High School seniors have earned the incredible honor and distinction of the New York State Seal of Biliteracy for the 2019-2020 school year. This recognition honors high school graduates who have attained and can demonstrate a high level of proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing in English and one or more languages.

The seniors who earned this distinction are Lauren Basso for Spanish, Felipe de Figueiredo for Portuguese, Thiago de Figueiredo for Portuguese, Irisleidy Garcia-Roa for Spanish, Adam Kwarren for Spanish, Shiying Lin for Mandarin, Melissa Pereira for Spanish, Milena Ramirez-Paredes for Spanish, Angela Ruggiano for Italian and Spanish, and Katarina Zedlovich for Spanish. In addition, this is also the first year the district had a student earn a Seal of Triliteracy.

The purpose of the NYSSB is to encourage the study of languages, identify high school graduates with language and biliteracy skills for employers, provide universities with additional information about applicants seeking admission, prepare students for 21st century skills, recognize the value of foreign and native language instruction in schools and affirm the value of diversity in a multilingual society.
The district applauds the dedication and hard work these students have devoted to this practice.
