At its Aug. 15 business meeting, the Carle Place School District’s Board of Education anticipates adopting a resolution to proceed with a community vote on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2024 on the financing of various capital improvement work through a bond referendum and authorization to use capital reserve funds.

Voters will have the opportunity to vote on two propositions. Proposition No. 1 calls for replacing the existing heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems at Carle Place Middle/High School. The new heating and air conditioning systems will be highly efficient. It will include dedicated outdoor air systems that condition and clean the air in the classrooms. New heating, air conditioning, and ventilation systems will be added to the gymnasiums. Improvements also include replacing the building’s suspended ceilings and installing LED lighting. The total cost of Proposition No. 1 is approximately $13 million. The total cost of Proposition No. 1 is approximately $13 million. Details, including the associated impact to homeowners from Proposition No. 1, which will have a very low cost and may even be tax neutral, will be shared in the coming weeks.

The second proposition includes the construction of a five-classroom extention on Cherry Lane Elementary School for the purpose of housing the district’s Universal Pre-Kindergarten program. The total cost of Proposition No. 2 is approximately $6 million, which would be funded through a bond. All cost information, including the associated impact to homeowners from Proposition No. 2, will be shared with the community in the coming weeks. It is important to note that passage of Proposition No. 2 is contingent upon the community’s approval of Proposition No. 1.

“The proposed project to enhance the middle/high school HVAC system and expand classrooms for our UPK program will provide a safer, more comfortable and more conducive learning environment for students,” said Superintendent Dr. Ted Cannone. “We are excited to propose this project to the community. Should the Board adopt the resolution to proceed with a community vote, we look forward to sharing additional information with the public in the coming weeks. Our goal is to keep residents informed and foster a sense of transparency.”
