Former Carle Place High School coaches Joe Coady and Ralph Capozzi were inducted into the Nassau County High School Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2025 on Oct. 7 at the Crest Hollow Country Club.
Coady, a decorated World War II veteran and former Army Air Corps officer, became Carle Place High School’s first football coach and longtime director of physical education and athletics in 1955. Known for his leadership, discipline and care for his players, Coady led the Frogs to an impressive 125-57-11 record, including four undefeated seasons and 10 conference championships. His legacy as the winningest coach in Carle Place history continues to inspire former players and the community long after his passing in 2017.
Capozzi is a legendary Carle Place High School coach who led teams to championships in football, baseball and bowling, leaving a lasting impact on the school and community. Under his leadership, the Frogs achieved remarkable success, including a 210-84 baseball record, multiple county and Long Island titles, an undefeated football season in 1995 and consecutive Nassau bowling championships. Beyond sports, Capozzi’s dedication extended to all areas of the community — his Make-A-Wish fundraiser raised over $550,000 — furthering his legacy as a leader who inspired and uplifted thousands.
Coady and Capozzi’s inductions bring Carle Place’s total to seven administrators, coaches and players honored in the Hall of Fame over its 10-year history. Previous inductees include Rebecca “Becky” King (2015), Matt Snell (2016), Jimmy Colligan (2019), Gloria O’Connor (2019) and Chris Ceruti (2023).
