Seniors Lorelei Gorman and Carolina Viegas have been named valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, for the Class of 2026 at Carle Place High School. Both students have distinguished themselves through outstanding academic achievement and meaningful involvement in school activities and the broader community.
Gorman earned an exceptional 103.36 GPA and has been recognized as a National Merit Scholarship Finalist, Rensselaer Medal Award recipient, AP Capstone Diploma recipient and AP Scholar with Distinction. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the science, English and math honor societies and participates in chamber orchestra, varsity girls tennis and mock trial. She plans to attend Princeton University in the fall.
“I feel so blessed that God put me on this path — so blessed now for both the beautiful and difficult times of my life, because He has been right by my side the entire time,” said Gorman. “I am so grateful for my loving family and amazing teachers, who have paved my path since day one. I don't think I can express my gratitude enough because I would not be remotely close to where I am today without all the wonderful human beings in my life.”
Viegas earned an outstanding 102.36 GPA and is an AP Scholar with Distinction, George Eastman Leadership Award recipient and ex officio board of education member. She serves as president of the Carle Place Student Organization, director of the student-run theater program and a peer mentor. She is also a member of the National Honor Society, the English and Tri-M honor societies, as well as the drama club and varsity soccer team. Viegas plans to major in psychology with minors in leadership studies and sociology, as she works toward becoming a clinical psychologist specializing in child development.
“I am truly so grateful for this honor,” said Viegas. “While it did take a lot of work, it was ultimately the support of my parents that has allowed me to become the student and person I am today. They continued to believe in me even when I doubted myself. Seeing their faces when I told them the news is a memory I will always hold close to my heart.”
The Carle Place School District congratulates Gorman and Viegas on their accomplishments and wishes them continued success in their future endeavors.
