On April 15, students in Carle Place High School’s life skills class explored the meaning of giving back by putting their learning into action. In partnership with SEPTA, they prepared 50 meal bags for a local community meal night hosted by St. Brigid Catholic Church in Westbury.

With generous support from SEPTA President Mrs. Anna Moruzzi, who provided all necessary ingredients and materials, students followed step-by-step supports and modeling to prepare peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and assemble each bag with care. Using modified task analysis and guided instruction, they worked diligently to complete the project.

The students were highly engaged throughout the experience and took great pride in their efforts. As a result of their hard work, 50 families in need had a meal option available to them at the following evening’s event.

“The students’ dedication and teamwork truly paid off,” said Ms. Chelsea Tizzio, special education teacher at Carle Place High School. “We couldn’t be prouder of their compassion, effort and commitment to making a difference!"
