Multilingual students from Mrs. Rusinyak’s and Ms. Chiarelli-Shay’s classes at Carle Place Middle/Senior High School recently traveled to New York City to experience the vibrant energy of Broadway by attending a performance of Buena Vista Social Club. The musical celebrates the rich musical heritage of Cuba and features legendary musicians who brought Cuban music to international audiences.
The performance provided students with a cultural window into Cuban traditions while demonstrating how music can transcend language barriers. Students witnessed firsthand how the universal language of music connects people from different backgrounds and cultures, and how multiculturalism can be celebrated and embraced by individuals from all walks of life. An additional highlight of the trip came after the performance, when several students had their playbills signed by members of the cast.
