On June 24, Cherry Lane School honored its second graders during the annual moving-up ceremony, which celebrated an important milestone in the students’ educational journey.
The ceremony began with the Pledge of Allegiance and a performance of “America the Beautiful” by the second graders. Principal Lauren Moriarty welcomed students, families and friends and thanked them for their continued support throughout the students’ time at Cherry Lane.
The second grade chorus then performed “A Million Dreams,” “Lean On Me/Don’t Stop Believin,’” “Thank You, Teachers, Thank You” and “The World Is Ours.” The Cherry Lane Strings followed with renditions of “Boil Them Cabbage Down” and “The Best Day of My Life.”
During her moving-up address, Ms. Moriarty recognized the students’ hard work, growth and accomplishments over the past three years. She reminded them that they had made a lasting impact on the school and that Cherry Lane would always be a place they could call home.
The second grade teachers then invited each class to the stage, where students crossed in recognition of their transition to Rushmore Avenue School.
The ceremony concluded with a special performance of “Moving On.” Rushmore Avenue fifth graders who had siblings among the graduating class began the song, and the Cherry Lane students joined in to finish it, accompanied by high school instrumental performers.
The Carle Place School District congratulates the Cherry Lane second graders on a wonderful three years and wishes them continued success as they begin the next chapter of their educational journey at Rushmore Avenue.
