Rushmore Avenue sixth graders celebrate moving-up ceremony

On June 25, Carle Place’s Rushmore Avenue School held its moving-up ceremony celebrating the school’s graduating sixth graders and their many accomplishments throughout their elementary school years.

The ceremony began with the Pledge of Allegiance and a performance of the national anthem by the Select Sixth Grade Choir. Principal Mr. Chris Scardino and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ted Cannone welcomed students and families with opening remarks, congratulating the students, wishing them well as they begin middle school and thanking families for their continued support.

Next, retiring Principal Mrs. Catherine Siletti shared words of encouragement with students, emphasizing the importance of always being themselves and showing kindness to others throughout middle school and beyond. Cherry Lane Principal Ms. Lauren Moriarty then recognized Mrs. Siletti’s lasting impact on students, staff and the entire Carle Place community.

Students were then recognized for their outstanding achievements with a variety of awards. Jacob Bosi and Caleb Oh received the Triple “C” Award, Dominic Moruzzi was presented with the Loretta Stehlik Award, John Iannucci and Georgia Macmanus earned the New York State Comptroller Award, and Emmalynn Hess and Ella Sterlacci were honored with the Leader in Me Award.

The Principal’s Award of Distinction, which recognizes students who maintain a 95% average, earn all A’s in work and study habits, and consistently demonstrate exemplary character and behavior, was presented to Olivia Brenner, Anthony Cosenza Jr., Lucas Costa, John Dimopoulos, Krisana Klinsrisuk, Mila Liong, Julia Nordman, Jolie Purayananth and Alexis Wong.

Students were also recognized with three categories of Presidential Educational Awards. The Award for Academic Excellence was presented to Madelynn Brown, Jason Lackner, Livia Mikhelashvili, Jacqueline Scarpa, Lorelei Clancy and Patricia Kaidas for their outstanding academic achievement.

The Award for Academic Achievement, recognizing students who demonstrated exceptional growth, improvement and commitment to learning, was presented to Ethan Curty, Jayden Detruksa, Anova Eguizabal, Olivia Gomes, Liam Hidalgo, Nora Magone, Mia Pecora and Bradley Posillico.

The Achievement in the Arts Award honored students who demonstrated exceptional achievement, dedication and motivation in the arts. The recipients were Olivia Brenner, Derek Chen, Lorelei Clancy, Gabrielle Doyle, Bryce Enoe, Evalina Estrella, Violet Healy, John Iannucci, Patricia Kaidas, Georgia Macmanus, Kaylee McGuinness, Livia Mikhelashvili, Ellesandra Mistretta, Abigail O'Brien, Caleb Oh, Nicholas O'Neill, Jolie Purayananth, Annabell Vasquez Gutierrez and Alexis Wong.

Each student was then called to the stage to receive their diploma and shake hands with Mr. Scardino and Mrs. Siletti. Students celebrated their elementary school memories by watching the “Journey Through Rushmore” video before the ceremony concluded with remarks from Mr. Allen Foraker, principal of Carle Place Middle/High School, who officially welcomed students to their next chapter.
