On August 25th and 26th, Carle Place Schools hosted its annual New Teacher Orientation, welcoming the district’s newest educators ahead of the 2026–2027 school year. Throughout the two-day program, new teachers explored the district’s mission and educational values, learned about instructional goals and the experiences Carle Place strives to provide its students, and received important information about district policies, procedures and resources.
The first day began with “A Talk with the Superintendent,” led by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ted Cannone. The session introduced new educators to Carle Place’s educational values and provided an overview of the district’s approach to teaching and learning.
Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction & Innovation Ms. Leigh Shaw then led “The Portrait of a Graduate and Your Classroom,” focusing on how the district’s Portrait of a Graduate connects to classroom instruction and student learning. Next, Assistant Superintendent for Special Education and Pupil Personnel Services Dr. Philip Molnar led special education & ENL training, providing an overview of the supports and services available to students.
The day continued with a district and observation process overview led by Executive Director for Human Resources & Leadership Development Mr. Andrew Bennett. New teachers learned about the district’s organizational structure and key personnel, as well as the teacher evaluation and observation process. The day concluded with building orientations and time for teachers to become familiar with their classrooms.
The second day began with technology training led by District Director of Instructional Technology Mr. Mike Davola, who introduced educators to the district’s technology resources and tools. Mr. Bennett then led a Human Resources training session, covering important information for new staff members.
The afternoon provided an opportunity for new teachers to connect with their mentors and learn more about the district’s mentorship program, led by Ms. Gardiner and Ms. Younker. The program also included a CPTA orientation and union information session led by Ms. Renga.
The two-day orientation concluded with additional building and classroom time, giving new educators an opportunity to prepare their classrooms and get ready to welcome students for the new school year.
“The new teachers joining Carle Place for the 2026-2027 school year bring a variety of experiences in the classroom,” said Mr. Bennett. “They share a deep passion for teaching and a high level of compassion for students, which will serve them well as they become part of our school community. I look forward to supporting their professional growth and witnessing the positive impact they will have on our students’ lives.”
