On Oct. 8 and 9, members of the Carle Place Fire Department visited Cherry Lane School to teach students important fire safety skills and demonstrate how they respond during an emergency.
Firefighters introduced students to the gear and tools they use during emergencies and shared important fire safety techniques. Students also got hands-on experience spraying a hose from the fire truck.
The visit also included a mock fire emergency inside a mobile smokehouse, where students practiced identifying alternate exit routes and had the opportunity to climb out a window as part of the drill.
Firefighters also emphasized the importance of having a designated meeting point at a safe distance from their home and reminded students that they should never be afraid of a firefighter during an emergency. They also reviewed what students should do if they ever find themselves in a fire.
The district would like to thank the Carle Place Fire Department for providing this valuable, hands-on learning experience and helping Cherry Lane students build important fire safety skills.
