Carle Place’s Cherry Lane School welcomed the fall season with hands-on lessons and activities that brought students, families and staff together while creating opportunities for learning and fun.

On Oct. 16, the school held its annual friendship garden planting, which invited students and parents to help prepare the school’s flowerbeds for spring. Students from each class selected a bulb, placed it in a pre-dug hole and covered it with soil using gardening tools. The activity gave them a chance to work together and learn about the plant life cycle as they look forward to seeing their flowers bloom in the spring.

On Oct. 21, kindergartners participated in a pumpkin-themed learning experience. Students took turns carving a pumpkin before working with classmates to count its seeds by organizing them into groups of 10. To wrap up the day, the classes gathered to transform the pumpkin into an exciting pumpkin volcano.

The autumn celebrations continued on Oct. 23 with Cherry Lane’s fall harvest festival. Students enjoyed a variety of festive activities, including wrapping an adult like a mummy, digging for ghosts in kinetic sand, exploring a fog-filled bat cave with bubbles, picking and decorating pumpkins, and testing their senses with a “What Do You Feel?” guessing game.

The district would like to thank the Cherry Lane PTA for sponsoring the friendship garden planting and fall harvest festival and to the parent volunteers whose support helped make these celebrations possible.
