Members of the Carle Place Middle-High School Med Tech Club had the incredible opportunity to visit Glen Cove Hospital, where they experienced a unique, behind-the-scenes look at the many dynamic roles within the health care field.
Throughout the day, students interacted with a wide range of professionals, including doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, radiology technicians, respiratory therapists and pharmacists. They explored the realms of physical and occupational therapy and learned about the important contributions of dietitians and hospital chefs in supporting patient wellness.
The experience extended into creative fields through music and art therapy sessions, giving students a fresh perspective and new appreciation for patient care and holistic healing. Discussions with CAT scan technologists and radiology experts further highlighted the exciting intersection of medicine and technology.
The Med Tech Club students remained completely engaged throughout the visit, asking thoughtful questions surrounding the professionals’ college degrees, time spent in school and emotions towards their jobs.
Students connected their classroom learning to real-world possibilities, and many walked away with a clearer sense of direction and a newfound excitement about the diverse paths within health care. Students gained new insights and understanding, discovering the full ecosystem of a hospital and the countless ways one can contribute to the world of medicine, leaving them with knowledge, inspiration and direction.
