Carle Place High School students participated in their annual Battle of the Classes: Battling for a Cause on May 25. This marked the 16th year of the special event. Together, they raised more than $14,500 for the Children’s Tumor Foundation, in honor of Carle Place sophomore Dean LaRotunda. The foundation’s mission is to drive research, expand knowledge and advance care for the neurofibromatosis community.

Battle of the Classes: Battling for a Cause is organized each year by the Carle Place Middle/High School Student Organization with adviser Jillian Kelly and the Key Club with adviser Maddalena Buffalino. Each grade level from 9-12 participates in friendly competition events such as an inflatable obstacle course, relay race, volleyball game, teachers vs. seniors basketball game, Pictionary, Quizbowl, ultimate frisbee and bubble soccer. The senior class took home the victory this year.

“Our attendance numbers surpassed all expectations, with an impressive turnout of individuals from diverse student groups,” Ms. Kelly said. “This level of engagement speaks volumes about the inclusivity of Carle Place High School, as well as the immense compassion and passion of this community.”
